Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  SingaporeDecember 26, 2019
As a developer I would like to mention that working in SPH was a great experience for me because I had a great chance to attend so many trainings which the organised paid for. Other than that the teams in the organization was so enthusiastic and fun loving.

Senior Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Toa PayohDecember 16, 2019
Throughout the day I completed various administrative duties preparing weekly/monthly reports for division meetings. Churning reports upon internal/external requests and helped managers/execs in preparing documents for presentation. The hardest part of the job, when given a big project by head division to be completed immediately, in a short notice and at the same time had to close the weekly/monthly reports. The enjoyable part of the job when everyone helped as a team in order to finish the crucial task.
Pros
Teamwork
Cons
Long hours

Very happy working at SPH for more than 30 years. However always felt that my work was never appreciated. Favouritism was very predominantly practiced in my department.

They do not pick great managers, managers uses appraisals to push her subordinates and when there is trouble, she pushes the blame to her subordinate when she had to engross it.

Stable but boring job
Copy Vetting Executive (Former Employee) –  Toa PayohMay 26, 2019
The culture is rather sleepy - your responsibility is fixed, defined and rather minimal. You do the same thing day in and day out. Job is stable and career progression is slow because turnover isn't high.
Pros
Good welfare and facilities like gym, good work-life balance
Cons
Lack of personal development and career progression

Just Okay
Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Toa PayohApril 16, 2019
- workplace culture varies in every department. mine was a stiff, unfriendly, bureaucratic type of culture.
- employee's efficiency and productivity on the job is based upon whether you render extra office hours or not. totally wrong.
- oftentimes, you teach yourself to learn the job. though some colleagues may be willing to help but asking for help slows the team down. you are expected to deliver the "bestest" quality at a lesser amount of time.
- senior folks or those who have been with the company for far too long, are mostly (not all) are like spoiled babies by management and at times are condescending towards the newbies.
- there is professional growth but perhaps not for long term.
Pros
good location, learning on the job, some supportive colleagues, nice facilities (gym, canteen with cheap prices, heard there's now a cafe at the lobby)
Cons
difficult bosses, lots of bosses, stiff culture, etc.

Systems Support Specialist (Current Employee) –  Toa PayohSeptember 26, 2018
The timing is quite flexible; you come in early, you leave early and vice versa. Although, this really depends on your supervisor. You are not really required to work overtime or on weekends unless needed. In which, time-off will be provided for you. Handling customers can be tough, but having helped them through their issues is rewarding. We also ensure that the mobile products that are released to the public are as bug-free as possible.

Need to be less politcially correct
Executive Copy editor (Former Employee) –  Toa Payoh NorthJune 6, 2018
SPH could be more professional in journalism, instead of being too stringently politically correct in reports, especially those concerning local politics.

Odd hours for work
Web Uploader (Former Employee) –  SingaporeMay 30, 2018
As a news company, there's always news at odd hours. The shifts are long and have lull periods. You are always on top of the news, and can learn a lot about the world.
